In this article I want to address what is the hope of the Gospel. In 1st Corinthians 13 the apostle Paul said and now these three things remain, faith, hope, and love. But, what is this hope that Paul put such an emphasis on.
1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
1 John 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
At the beginning of his letter John spoke of beholding the word of life God promised in the resurrected body of Jesus. He makes a point to say they touched the body of Jesus after he was raised from the dead to combat the lie that Jesus was raised spiritually & not physically.
Then in chapter 3 He says now we are the Sons of God even though it is not yet seen what we shall be. When he says it is not yet seen what we shall be he is referring back to what they saw in Jesus when he was raised from the dead.
& John says as Sons we have the hope that when Jesus returns we will see the same glory & immortality manifested in our bodies that we saw manifested in the body of Jesus when he was raised from the dead.
John says this is the hope of the gospel & it purifies the heart of all who have this hope. This is the same hope the apostle Paul preached that he said saves the soul from the tribulation in the world.
When Jesus walked the earth he had the hope that he would be raised from the dead, & this hope saved his soul from the suffering of the cross. God has given us this same hope in Jesus so we can have a peace, & love, & joy that conquers the fear & tribulation that is in the world.
If we can’t preach the hope of Jesus. The same hope John & Paul preached. We may want to consider if we are believing the same thing they believed.
